All this week, our emails are about negotiation. My goal is that by the time we get to Friday, you’ve become a more confident and effective negotiator.

Today, we’ll uncover some of the core principles that underpin successful negotiations.

Let’s begin with the easiest core principle to understand.

We’re all negotiating all of the time!

We started our negotiating career at a very young age. If you’re a parent, you’ll immediately recall the strength and determination of that 4-year-old negotiator in your family!

I come across a lot of people in selling roles who believe that they’re operating within strict policies that don’t allow for any negotiation.

And the mistake they’re making is to believe that the only thing to negotiate is price. The reality is that there’s an enormous range of things that can be negotiated in every selling situation. This will become clearer later in the week.
