How to fall in love with role play for your sales training!

Make role-play safe and fun to improve your selling skills - Thursday 14 September

Hello Subscriber,

How do you feel about the part that role-play can play in your sales training?

I know from experience there are lots of salespeople who hate role-play with a passion!

You won’t be surprised that I’m a massive fan of the value of role-play in developing outstanding selling skills.

The Start of My Sales Career

I was very fortunate with how my sales career started. I joined a large sales team in the UK that ran their own residential sales training centre in Birmingham, UK.

Every week for six weeks, I’d leave home in Swansea on a Sunday evening to spend the week in full-time sales training. I’d drive home on a Friday evening with a 2-3 page script to memorise for Monday.

After these initial six weeks, I had a month of continued training at the regional sales office. And then, I went back for a further three weeks of residential sales training in Birmingham.

I look back on these thirteen weeks and see it as the pivotal time in my career when everything changed.

What was the most significant and valuable part of this training? You guessed it! It was the role-play.

We did lots and lots of role-play. I learned the most by doing and repeating, not just talking about stuff. It was only later, when I became a sales trainer myself, that I realised that I’d been taught how to embrace role-play.
